Amazon mulls $5 monthly price tag for AI Alexa service
In a bold move to revitalize its loss-making Alexa service, Amazon is reportedly preparing to launch "Remarkable Alexa," a new AI-powered voice assistant that could potentially transform the decade-old platform.
According to insiders, Amazon aims to replace the current "Classic Alexa" with an AI-enhanced free version, while introducing a more advanced tier powered by sophisticated AI for complex queries. This premium service is rumored to be priced at around $5 per month, with some sources suggesting it could go as high as $10.
The paid version of Remarkable Alexa is said to offer significantly expanded capabilities. Users could potentially compose and send emails, order meals from services like Uber Eats, and perform other intricate tasks through a single voice command. The new system may also eliminate the need for repeated "Alexa" wake words during conversations and provide enhanced personalization. Remarkable Alexa is expected to learn from user behavior, automatically performing actions like turning on the TV for favorite shows or brewing coffee after a morning alarm.
When approached for comment, an Amazon spokesperson acknowledged the company's ongoing efforts to integrate generative AI into Alexa, stating, "We have already incorporated generative AI into various Alexa components and are working diligently to implement these advancements at scale across the over half a billion Alexa-enabled devices worldwide.”….
