In a move to accelerate innovation and gather user insights, Google has previously released three new experimental Gemini 1.5 models. Including a compact 8B parameter version, an improved Pro model, and an enhanced Flash model.
According to Logan Kilpatrick, product lead for Google AI Studio, the experimental models are a key part of the company's strategy to rapidly iterate and improve its AI offerings. "What we learn from experimental launches informs how we release models more widely," Kilpatrick explained in a recent X thread.
The latest iterations of Gemini 1.5 Flash and Pro boast a 1 million token limit and are available for free testing on Google AI Studio. Starting September 3, Google will automatically redirect requests to the new models, phasing out the older versions to avoid confusion.
Kilpatrick expressed enthusiasm for the response to the initial experimental model, which was released earlier this month. "We have been blown away by the excitement... There has been lots of hard work behind the scenes at Google to bring these models to the world, we can't wait to see what you build!"
The upgraded Gemini 1.5 Pro model has already made a significant impact, ranking #2 on the Chatbot Arena leaderboard, while the new Gemini 1.5 Flash model has secured the #6 spot….

Alorica, a leading provider of customer experience solutions, has unveiled an artificial intelligence-powered translation tool that enables its representatives to communicate with customers in 200 languages and 75 dialects.
The innovative technology, which has been rolled out at Alorica's global customer-service centers, allows representatives who speak a single language to handle customer inquiries and complaints from individuals who speak entirely different languages. For instance, a Spanish-speaking representative can now assist a Cantonese-speaking customer in Hong Kong, eliminating the need for Alorica to hire a separate representative fluent in Cantonese.
Contrary to concerns that AI would lead to widespread job losses, Alorica's experience suggests that the technology is actually creating new opportunities while making existing jobs more efficient. The company is still aggressively hiring, and the AI tool is being seen as a productivity booster that benefits both employees and employers.
This trend is not unique to Alorica. IKEA is also leveraging AI to enhance their customer service operations without cutting jobs. IKEA, introduced a customer-service chatbot in 2021 to handle simple inquiries. Instead of cutting jobs, IKEA retrained 8,500 customer-service workers to handle such tasks as advising customers on interior design and fielding complicated customer calls.
According to Nick Bunker, an economist at the Indeed Hiring Lab, AI is likely to have a significant impact on the job market, but not necessarily in the way many people fear. "AI will affect many, many jobs – maybe every job indirectly to some extent," Bunker noted. "But I don't think it's going to lead to mass unemployment."....

Gmail Q&A for Android and iOS apps
Google has introduced a new feature called Gmail Q&A for Android users, leveraging its Gemini AI to enhance email management. This feature allows users to interact with Gemini directly within the Gmail app, enabling them to ask natural language questions about their inbox. Users can inquire about unread messages, filter emails from specific senders, or request summaries of emails on particular topics.
To access Gmail Q&A, users can tap the black Gemini star icon at the top right of the Gmail app. This functionality was initially available through a sidebar on the web version of Gmail and is now rolling out to mobile devices, with a full rollout expected within 15 days. The feature will also be available on iOS soon.
