OpenAI launches ChatGPT search
OpenAI has integrated a new search function into its popular large language model, ChatGPT. The update, announced on Thursday, marks the AI giant's foray into a domain long dominated by Alphabet's Google.
By incorporating search capabilities into ChatGPT, OpenAI is also pitting itself against Microsoft's Bing, a search engine backed by the company that also supports OpenAI. Additionally, ChatGPT will compete with emerging services like Perplexity, a search-focused AI chatbot firm backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and semiconductor giant Nvidia. And of course Google search that dominates the search market.
According to OpenAI, the new search feature will scour the web based on user queries, providing timely answers and links to relevant web sources. The company revealed that ChatGPT search will rely on third-party search providers(Google, Bing), as well as content provided directly by its partners.
The search model is a fine-tuned version of GPT-4o, OpenAI said in a blog post. The feature will be available to ChatGPT Plus and Team users starting Thursday, with enterprise and educational customers gaining access in the coming weeks. Free users can expect the rollout to occur over the next few months….

Meta(Facebook) builds AI search engine
Meta(Facebook) is indeed developing its own AI-powered search engine. This initiative aims to reduce the company's reliance on competitors like Google Search and Microsoft's Bing while enhancing its AI capabilities across its platforms.
Meta's new search engine is designed to crawl the web and provide conversational answers about current events to users of its Meta AI chatbot. This feature will be integrated across Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger, potentially reaching its vast user base of around 4 billion people globally.
Currently, Meta AI relies on Google Search and Microsoft's Bing to provide users with up-to-date information on topics such as news, sports, and financial markets. By developing its own search engine, Meta aims to lessen its dependence on these competitors and gain more control over the user experience.
Meta's search engine division has been compiling and categorizing information from various websites for at least eight months. In July, the company discreetly initiated a web crawler to gather data for training its Meta AI, similar to the approach taken by OpenAI's GPTBot.
Developing an in-house search engine allows Meta to collect valuable data on user preferences and behavior, which can be used to refine its advertising strategy and improve targeted content delivery.…

Perplexity lets you search your enterprise files and web
AI conversational search engine Perplexity typically looks for information online or in a provided database and interacts with users one at a time. Now, the company is changing things up with two new major features to augment its answers and improve its collaborative ability. The Internal Knowledge Search feature.
Perplexity was among the first to blend Google-style search engines with ChatGPT-style conversational ability, beating both Google and OpenAI to the idea of real-time web searching coupled with an interface that could mimic how people actually speak.
Search has, until now, been limited to either hunting online or using provided databases. The Internal Knowledge Search feature melds them together, allowing simultaneous online and internal company knowledge searching through one giant informational source.
Perplexity is helpful professionally for those who need to combine internal company knowledge with the latest information online. Users can now search across both their organization's internal files and the public web simultaneously. This eliminates the need to switch between different platforms for internal and external information. The feature is designed to improve teamwork by allowing members to access and share internal knowledge more efficiently.
Users can choose to search exclusively in web sources, organizational files, or both. This flexibility allows for more targeted research depending on the task at hand. Perplexity leverages AI to analyze and synthesize information from various sources, providing contextualized knowledge rather than just raw data. Enterprise Pro users can upload up to 500 files to their organization's repository. This limit may be expanded in the future….
