OpenAI to launch AI that can reason
In a move that has left many in the tech community scratching their heads, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently posted a cryptic image of strawberries on social media. Sources close to the matter have now revealed that the post was likely a nod to a groundbreaking technical achievement, codenamed "Strawberry," which could revolutionize the way conversational AI models tackle complex tasks.
According to insiders, Strawberry is a research project that builds upon the work of former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever. The technology is being compared to Stanford's Self-Taught Reasoner (STaR) method, which enables models to reason more effectively by generating explanations for their answers and fine-tuning themselves based on these self-generated rationales.
Strawberry is not only a standalone innovation but also a crucial component in the development of OpenAI's next-generation large language model, codenamed Orion (GPT-5). The technology is being used to generate synthetic data for training Orion, which is expected to succeed GPT-4.
If Strawberry meets expectations, it could mark a significant milestone in AI reasoning, potentially propelling OpenAI closer to its goal of achieving Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). With ChatGPT set to integrate these capabilities this fall, the AI community may be on the cusp of a major breakthrough.
In a previously unreported development, Altman's team demonstrated Strawberry to American national security officials this summer, according to a person with direct knowledge of the meetings. The implications of this technology are still unclear, but one thing is certain: Strawberry is a game-changer that could redefine the future of AI.

In a move that could further solidify OpenAI's position as a leader in the artificial intelligence space, Nvidia Corp., the world's largest chipmaker, is in discussions to join a funding round that would value the startup at over $100 billion, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Apple Inc. and Microsoft Corp., two of the world's most valuable tech companies, are also reportedly in talks to participate in the financing, which would be led by Thrive Capital with a $1 billion investment. Nvidia is considering a $100 million investment, according to two people with knowledge of the discussions.
If the deal comes to fruition, it would mark a significant show of support for OpenAI, the creator of the revolutionary ChatGPT chatbot. Microsoft, already OpenAI's largest funder, has invested approximately $13 billion in the company to date.
OpenAI's Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Friar, informed employees in a memo on Wednesday that the company is seeking fresh capital, according to sources. The company has been in discussions to raise funding at a valuation of $100 billion or more since at least December. Friar stated that the new financing would be used to acquire additional computing power and cover other operating expenses.
